Au  total, ce sont environ 600 sociétés, 900 emplois et plus de 50 000 personnes  qui  dépendent  à  différents  degrés  des  services  écosystémiques  des  récifs  coralliens  et écosystèmes associés de Mayotte. \r\nPrès  de  15M€  sont  visibles  en  termes  de  flux  financiers  annuels  pour  l’économie  de  Mayotte  (via  les valeurs  ajoutées  des  services  du  tourisme  et  de  la  pêche  liés  aux  RCEA)  tandis  que  d’autres  services, comme  la  protection  contre  les  inondations  côtières  et  la  séquestration  du  carbone,  ne  sont  pas comptabilisés dans les statistiques économiques.   \r\nLes  principaux  services  en  termes  économiques  sont  la  protection  contre  les  inondations  côtières  (11M€/an),  la  production  de  biomasse  (commerciale  et  d’autoconsommation  pour  9M€/an)  suivi  du service  d’attributs  pour  le  tourisme  « bleu » (6  M€/an). L’objectif  du  projet  d’Inventaire  Rapide  de  la Biodiversité  est  de  renforcer  les  connaissances de  la  zone  du  Diahot-Balabio  par  des  études d’évaluation rapide et pluridisciplinaires afin : \r\n-  de  compléter  et  affiner  la  cartographie  des habitats,  \r\n-  de  caractériser  et  cartographier  les peuplements ; \r\n-  de  réaliser  un  inventaire  de biodiversité (coraux,  poissons,  mollusques, autres  invertébrés,  mammifères  marins, tortues, oiseaux) ; \r\n-  d’identifier  au  sein  du  site  les  zones  de  plus grand intérêt écologique ; \r\n-  d’évaluer son état de santé ; \r\n-  d’identifier  les  usages  et  de  mesurer  les pressions qui s’exercent sur cette zone ; \r\n-  de  cerner,  par  enquêtes  auprès  des populations  locales,  les  savoirs  autochtones sur  la  biodiversité marine,  les  usages  et  leur géographie,  la  codification  coutumière  et territoriale des zones maritimes (rivage, lagon, récifs),  les  zones  de  réserves  coutumières  et les lieux tabous.
