De ce fait, elle subit depuis quelques années des pressions anthropiques importantes. Les élus locaux, ayant pris conscience de la menace qui pèse sur leur commune, ont donc décidé de s’investir dans une politique respectueuse de l’environnement. Après avoir mis en place le Plan d’Aménagement Général et le Plan de Gestion de l’Espace Maritime, ils espèrent obtenir grâce à leurs efforts, l’écolabel environnemental décerné aux communes du littoral et aux ports de plaisance : le Pavillon Bleu d’Europe. L’objectif de cette étude fut de réaliser un document destiné à guider les élus dans leur démarche et à faire un état des lieux sur la situation actuelle. Il s’avère que l’île de Moorea présente de nombreux attraits touristiques, naturels et culturels, et que de véritables améliorations ont été constatées au niveau de la gestion environnementale. Néanmoins, si la commune se portait candidate au terme de cette année, de grosses lacunes concernant le domaine de l’assainissement ne lui permettrait pas d’obtenir cette labellisation.
