Les bancs de Geyser et Zélée sont situés dans la partie occidentale de l’Océan Indien, au nord du canal du Mozambique à environ 60 miles nautiques de l’île de Mayotte.Du 19 au 24 avril 1996, l’état initial (point zéro) des peuplements ichtyologiques des sites a été mené conjointement par l’Université de la Réunion, l’IFREMER et la Collectivité de Mayotte, afin de dresser un état des lieux de la ressource pour en assurer l’exploitation à long terme (Chabanet et al., 1996, 2002). En 1997, un autre suivi s’est déroulé du 1er au 8 mai, réalisé conjointement par l’ARVAM, l’IFREMER, OCEA et l’Université de la Réunion, afin de compléter la description des peuplements et de comparer les données obtenues (Tessier et al., 1997). En 1999, dans le cadre du programme CORDIO sur le blanchissement corallien et ses impacts écologiques et socio-économiques, des stations de surveillance ont été implantées et sont parties intégrantes de l’ORC. Les recommandations de ces études soulevaient alors la nécessité de poursuivre le suivi scientifique de cette zone de pêche et éco- touristique d’exception.&#13;
10 ans après l’état initial, il apparaît donc essentiel de mener une nouvelle campagne d’étude sur les bancs du Geyser et de la Zélée pour :&#13;
• évaluer l’impact de l’exploitation humaine sur la ressource,&#13;
• proposer des mesures de gestion efficaces pour la préservation des sites et de leurs&#13;

                <text>La DAF a sollicité le bureau d’études « ESPACES » pour établir un état des lieux des peuplements récifaux de chacune des zones du lagon de Mayotte, à partir d’un protocole standardisé rigoureux et identique sur chacune de ces zones. Les objectifs de cette étude sont donc les suivants :&#13;
1. Réaliser un inventaire des espèces de poissons récifaux observés dans chacun des sites, avec élaboration de listes d’espèces zonées ;&#13;
2. Apprécier l’abondance des poissons au sein des sites du projet ;&#13;
3. Apprécier la composition des peuplements, en terme de diversité taxonomique (familles et espèces principales), de structure trophique, pour chacun des sites ;&#13;
4. Réaliser une étude-pilote sur un des sites du projet (site de La Prévoyante-Peïtro) concernant l’évaluation par comptages visuels de l’abondance des espèces de poissons commerciaux et permettant d’apprécier :&#13;
- la diversité spécifique des espèces cibles des pêcheries artisanales locales ;&#13;
- l’abondance de chaque famille et espèce de ces poissons, en terme de&#13;
nombre d’individus et de biomasse&#13;
- la structure trophique de ces communautés de poissons, en terme de&#13;
nombre d’individus et de biomasse.&#13;
La présente étude s’inscrit donc dans le cadre du projet de classement en réserve naturelle d’espaces remarquables du lagon de Mayotte, mais également dans le cadre du Plan d’Action Local 2005-2010 pour la biodiversité.</text>

                <text>La DAF a donc sollicité le bureau d’études « ESPACES » pour établir un état des lieux des peuplements de poissons d’intérêt commercial de chacune des zones du projet, à partir d’un protocole standardisé rigoureux et identique sur chacune de ces zones. Les objectifs de cette étude sont donc les suivants :  1. Réaliser un inventaire des principales espèces-cibles de la pêcherie artisanale locale observées dans chacun des sites, avec élaboration de listes d’espèces zonées ;  2. Apprécier pour chacun des sites et pour l’ensemble du projet, la structuration de cette catégorie de poissons, selon plusieurs caractéristiques : &#13;
- la diversité taxonomique (principales familles et espèces) ; &#13;
- l’abondance de chaque famille et espèce de ces poissons, en terme de  nombre d’individus et de biomasse ; &#13;
- la structure trophique de ces communautés de poissons, en terme de nombre d’individus et de biomasse.  3. Etablir, sur le site de N’Gouja, nouvellement identifié au sein du projet de classement en réserve naturelle, un inventaire de l’ensemble des espèces de poissons récifaux observées. Ce travail qualitatif vise à enrichir l’état initial du site de N’Gouja du dossier d’instruction du projet, puisque aucune donnée sur les peuplements ichtyologiques de ce site n’était disponible.&#13;
La présente étude s’inscrit donc dans le cadre de ce projet de classement en réserve naturelle d’espaces remarquables du lagon de Mayotte, mais également dans le cadre du Plan d’Action Local 2006-2010 pour la biodiversité.</text>
