Elles forment des herbiers plurispécifiques, dominés en termes d’occurrence par 3 ou 4 espèces dont les principales sont Halodule uninervis, Syringodium isoetifolium, Halophila sp. et Thalassia hemprichii (Loricourt, 2005). \r\nCes herbiers sont ras, peu denses et fragmentés et colonisent aussi bien les secteurs de platiers de récifs barrières que les platiers de récifs frangeants. En 2015 le PNMM a permis d’étayer la connaissance de la distribution des herbiers intertidaux et de l’abondance des espèces de phanérogames sur tout le pourtour de l’île (Dedeken M., Ballorain K., 2015). Pour répondre aux besoins de la Directive européenne cadre sur l’eau (DCE) dans les DOM, des travaux ont été mis en œuvre ces dernières années pour améliorer les connaissances sur les herbiers tropicaux, leur fonctionnalité et à évaluer leur capacité à rendre compte de la qualité des eaux marines (Kerninon 2016). "]]]],["element",{"elementId":"41"},["name","Description"],["description","An account of the resource"],["elementTextContainer",["elementText",{"elementTextId":"11252"},["text","A la demande du Parc Naturel Marin de Mayotte et des services de l’État, un suivi scientifique des récifs coralliens de Mayotte en avril-mai 2025, par MAREX et CREOCEAN, a permis d’évaluer l’impact du cyclone Chido (le 14 décembre 2024) et du blanchissement massif de 2024 sur les récifs mahorais.\r\n\r\nCette étude met en évidence l’ampleur des dégâts subis par les récifs coralliens mahorais en 2024, avec des effets combinés du blanchissement et de Chido, qui ont fortement dégradé leur état, avec :\r\n– Une mortalité moyenne cumulée de 66 % des coraux, avec une perte de recouvrement de 35 %, à l’issue des deux phénomènes.\r\n– Des impacts très contrastés selon les types de récifs et leur exposition à la houle.\r\n– Des conséquences importantes attendues sur la biodiversité récifale et la protection côtière.\r\n\r\nCependant, la disparition de colonies coralliennes (mortes suite au blanchissement ou cassées par le cyclone) a entrainé la libération de substrat, potentiellement favorable à la colonisation par de futurs coraux. En 2004, la Direction de l’agriculture, de la forêt et de la pêche (DAF) a lancé un projet d’évaluation environnementale de 6 zones remarquables au sein du lagon de Mayotte (voir carte). Ces 6 zones ont été sélectionnées pour leur valeur écologique dans le cadre du Plan de Gestion du Lagon de Mayotte (PGLM, 2001). Ils couvrent au total 12 000 ha., ce qui représente environ 10% du lagon.\r\nLe groupe ARVAM-PARETO est spécialisé dans  la gestion des récifs coralliens et des zones côtières dans l’Océan Indien.
