Une contamination généralisée inattendue par les herbicides a été enregistrée dans les algues, les poissons et les macro-invertébrés situés à différents niveaux de la chaine trophique récifale. Les concentrations dans les organismes étudiés étaient, pour la majorité, au-dessous du niveau minimum d'effet observable et ne constituent pas de risque alimentaire pour la population qui consomme ces poissons. Cependant, la contamination généralisée peut affecter l'écosystème récifal dans l'avenir car les algues symbiotique du corail, Symbidinium sp.
