L’ordre des Décapodes est le plus vaste et le plus diversifié. Jusqu’à aujourd’hui, aucun inventaire des espèces de crustacés décapodes côtiers de Martinique, ou même des Petites Antilles, n’a été publié.\r\nL’Observatoire du Milieu Marin Martiniquais a réalisé un inventaire de ce groupe, en collaboration avec le Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle. Cette étude s’intègre dans un programme national de plus grande importance : le recensement des crustacés et l’étude de leur répartition pour une utilisation potentielle comme bioindicateurs.\r\nUne étude bibliographique préalable a permis de définir la stratégie d’échantillonnage. Les \r\nobjectifs de l’initiative visaient :\r\n•\t l’amélioration de la connaissance de la biodiversité, \r\nde  l’état  et  du  fonctionnement  des  écosystèmes \r\ncoralliens ;\r\n•\t la  réalisation  d’opérations  de  protection  et  de \r\ngestion des écosystèmes coralliens  à une échelle \r\nsignificative ;\r\n•\t la valorisation du potentiel économique reposant \r\nsur  les  valeurs  d’usage  et  la  biodiversité  des \r\nécosystèmes coralliens ;\r\n•\t la  diffusion  de  l’information  et  des  savoirs,  le \r\nrenforcement  des  capacités  et  l’animation  des \r\nréseaux locaux, nationaux et internationaux. \r\nLe programme s’est déroulé pendant 6 ans, de 2005 \r\nà 2010, sur plus de 17 pays impliqués à divers degrés, \r\nengageant  de  nombreux  partenaires  politiques, \r\nfinanciers et techniques. Cette période a permis de développer des actions dans 15 thèmes, s’inscrivant dans les axes du plan cadre de l’FRECOR, et se déclinant tout ou partie des collectivités de l’outre-mer.\r\n-\tCertains de ces thèmes sont « historiques » et se déclinent depuis le début de l’Ifrecor : la surveillance des récifs, la cartographie, les aires marines protégées, les actions de communication/sensibilisation ; \r\n-\td’autres ont démarré au cours de la phase 2, se sont déployés en phase 3 et poursuivis en phase 4 : observatoires des herbiers et des mangroves, changement climatique, socio-économie ;\r\n-\td’autres, enfin, ont émergé dans cette nouvelle phase : MERCI-Cor, vulnérabilité des outre-mer aux changements climatiques, liste rouge, espèces exotiques envahissantes, outils de financement pour la conservation.\r\nEn parallèle, les territoires ont développé leur propre plan d’action local avec des activités qui sont en résonnance avec les actions nationales, ces dernières trouvant dans les territoires leur terrain d’expérimentation, et d’autres activités locales développées en parallèle du plan national.
