L’objectif principal est d’informer sur les flux économiques qui sont produits chaque année par ces écosystèmes et sur l’importance de les prendre en compte dans les politiques et budgets de gestion de l’environnement. \r\nIl a été évalué que les RCEA produisent chaque année un total de 49M€, avec une estimation minimum de 36 M€ et un maximum de 62 M€.  Au total, ce sont environ 1500 sociétés, 4000 emplois\r\net près de 15 000 personnes qui dépendent à différents degrés des services écosystémiques des récifs\r\ncoralliens et écosystèmes associés de La Réunion. \r\nPrès de 37M€ sont visibles en termes de flux financiers annuels pour l’économie de La Réunion (via les valeurs ajoutées des services du tourisme et de la pêche liés aux RCEA) tandis que d’autres services, comme la protection contre les inondations côtières et la séquestration du carbone, ne sont  pas comptabilisés dans les statistiques économiques.   \r\nLes principaux services en termes économiques sont le tourisme « bleu » (28 M€/an), la protection contre les inondations côtières (12M€/an) suivi de la pêche récifale (commerciale et d’autoconsommation pour 9M€/an). Parallèlement, il nous a semblé indispensable d’évaluer aussi l’acception sociale du « grand public », terme qui sera précisé dans la suite du texte mais qui recouvre une importance toute particulière car c’est ce « grand public » qui produit l’opinion publique. Or, depuis l’émergence des réseaux sociaux et de la blogosphère, il est tentant d’assimiler à l’opinion publique les messages qui sont véhiculés via ces vecteurs. \r\nCette acception nous semble sujette à caution, c’est la raison pour laquelle, elle figure parmi les deux hypothèses qui structurent la présente étude :  \r\na) dans le cadre de la « crise Requins », les réseaux sociaux et blogosphère ne sont pas représentatifs de l’opinion publique, \r\nb) l’acceptation sociale de la réserve varie principalement selon l’appartenance à une catégorie d’acteurs et le degré d’exposition des acteurs de la catégorie à l’aléa Requins.  . Au total, ce sont environ environ 1 000 sociétés, 2 000 emplois et près de 75 000\r\npersonnes qui dépendent à différents degrés des services écosystémiques des récifs coralliens et écosystèmes\r\nassociés de St Barthélemy. \r\nPrès de 28M€ sont visibles en termes de flux financiers annuels pour le PIB de St Barthélemy (via les valeurs\r\najoutées des services du tourisme et de la pêche liés aux RCEA) tandis que d’autres services, comme la\r\nprotection contre les inondations côtières et la séquestration du carbone, ne sont pas comptabilisés dans les statistiques économiques.   \r\nLes principaux services en termes économiques sont le tourisme « bleu » (27 M€/an), la pêche récifale\r\n(commerciale et d’autoconsommation pour 2,5M€/an) suivi de la protection contre les inondations côtières\r\n(3M€/an).
